Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Decoding, resizing and re-encoding all happen in your browser using the canvas API. The files never leave your device, which is also why there is no file-size limit beyond what your own machine can hold in memory.
Which format should I choose?
WebP for almost everything on the web — it beats both JPEG and PNG at the same visual quality and is supported everywhere that matters. Keep PNG only when you need lossless output or crisp transparency, and JPEG when you need maximum compatibility with older tooling.
What quality setting should I use?
Around 75 to 85 is the usual sweet spot for photographs: the file drops sharply while the difference stays invisible at normal viewing sizes. Flat illustrations and screenshots tolerate lower values. PNG has no quality slider because it is lossless.
Why did my transparent PNG get a white background?
JPEG has no alpha channel, so transparency has to be flattened onto something. We paint white underneath rather than letting it turn black, which is what an unflattened conversion produces. Choose WebP or PNG if you need to keep transparency.
Does it respect photo rotation?
Yes. Photos from phones and cameras carry EXIF orientation, and the decoder is told to apply it. Tools that skip this step silently rotate portrait photos sideways when they re-encode.
